General Summary
The Chief IT Enterprise Architect will work with key constituencies to deliver an IT architecture plan that supports Tenneco’s business strategies. The architect must work directly with business leadership to identify the role IT solutions will play in realizing the business strategies, and to help the business envision how IT solutions can open up new strategic opportunities. The architect will work with the research and vendor communities to ensure awareness of IT solutions, current and future that will influence how IT is utilized within Tenneco.
The architecture team will evaluate IT solutions for their fit with the IT architecture plan. The architecture team will work within IT to develop IT roadmaps that ensure our current services are supportable, scalable and secure. The architecture team will also deliver high level solutions designs for IT project teams to implement. The architecture team will develop and execute a clear plan to communicate the IT architecture throughout Tenneco to achieve proper buy in and support for its implementation.
The chief architect also coordinates the shaping and estimating of IT projects to ensure all projects follow the architecture plan, and conform to standards for launching successful projects. The chief architect is responsible for managing and developing a staff of six. Additionally, the chief architect coordinates with senior IT staff to ensure the capabilities required to support the architecture plan are developed within the IT department.
Functions
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Clearly defining and communicating an IT architecture that matches Tenneco’s strategic goals.
- Shaping projects in a timely manner that conform to project initiation standards, as well as intent of IT architecture plan.
- Manage the enterprise's information enterprise architecture organization, consisting of approximately six direct reports and indirect reports. This includes hiring, training, staff development, and performance management.
- Facilitate architecture governance through a governance program that balances IT and business risks and costs against expected benefits.
- Develop, maintain and publish up-to-date IT roadmaps and standards. Oversee the approval, training, and dissemination of architectural policies and standards.
- Create, communicate and implement a risk-based process for vendor selection.
- Partner with the Vendor Management Organization in the negotiations of licensing terms consistent with the IT Architecture and strategy.
- Develop and manage budgets.
- Create and coordinate information architecture communication programs for all stakeholders.
- Work with the business units to facilitate identification of where IT solutions should be applied in support of business strategies, and to evaluate potential solutions. Promote new technologies to Business Units.
- Facilitate a metrics and reporting framework to provide regular reporting on the status of developing, maintaining and deploying our IT architecture.
- Provide strategic guidance for IT projects, including the supporting solution designers working on projects with the evaluation of architectural options.
- Liaise with other IT teams to ensure alignment with enterprise architectures, thus ensuring our architecture meets total IT requirements for supportability, scalability and security.
- Coordinate IT architecture and proof of concept projects with resources from the IT organization and business unit teams.
- Define and facilitate the architecture processes, including the reporting and oversight of architecture deployment.
- Coordinate the use of external resources involved in the architecture process, including, but not limited to, interviewing, negotiating contracts and fees, and managing external resources.
- Understand and interact with related disciplines through committees to ensure the consistent application of policies and standards across all technology projects, systems and services, including, but not limited to, privacy, risk management, compliance and business continuity management.
