The salary range for this position is $34.50 - $55.20 per hour.
Sign‑on bonus available: $1,500.
Placement within the salary range depends on relevant work experience and internal equity. For unionized positions, placement follows the collective bargaining agreement.

The Registered Nurse (BSN) embodies the Relationship‑Based Care model and performs PPM core functions. Under the direction of department leadership, the RN consistently reflects NM's mission, vision, and values; adheres to the Illinois Nurse Practice Act, the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program; and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and regulatory and accreditation standards.
Internal employees and rehires who left Northwestern Medicine within 1 year are not eligible for the sign‑on bonus. Exception: new graduate internal employees seeking their first licensed clinical position at NM may be eligible.
Responsibilities Relationship to Patient/Family and Community- Perform a comprehensive assessment on all assigned patients and document findings.
- Communicate changes in patient condition promptly.
- Use appropriate nursing diagnoses and data from the assessment to derive realistic outcomes and document measurable goals on the plan of care; modify the plan, if indicated, to identify realistic patient goals.
- Identify and prioritize patient needs and nursing diagnoses.
- Collaborate with patient, family, and other team members when planning patient care and document accordingly.
- Assess patients for discharge planning and make appropriate referrals.
- Evaluate and document patient response to nursing interventions and alter the plan of care as necessary.
- Ensure completed discharge instructions, medication reconciliation, and provide information to patient/family about patient portal and other resources.
- Support patient/family/spiritual/cultural needs, assess learning level and readiness, and document education records.
- Use teach‑back methodology for medication side‑effects and new medication education.
- Distribute Krames and use Culture Vision as a resource in care planning.
- Treat patients, families, and staff with respect and dignity.
- Acknowledge and value contributions of patient significant others as part of the plan of care.
- Adhere to ethical standards of practice and call for ethics consult when appropriate.
- Implement nursing interventions consistent with evidence‑based care according to the established plan of care.
- Maintain and advance professional image and science of nursing through evidence resources such as Ovid/Joanna Briggs, Up To Date , Culture Vision.
- Demonstrate active involvement in clinical ladder project or process improvement at unit/organization level.
- Demonstrate safe medication administration using barcoding.
- Promote and protect patient health, safety, and rights.
- Convey complete, timely, and accurate information at bedside shift report/hand‑off.
- Round hourly with patient care technicians.
- Maintain an environment of excellence to protect patients.
- Participate in quality metrics and dashboards.
- Ensure clinical practice excellence in preventing pressure ulcers, falls, CAUTI, and central line infections as appropriate.
- Serve as unit safety facilitator or identified resource for quality initiatives.
- Participate in unit huddles.
- Oversee and direct work of patient care or support techs; maintain accountability for assigned patients.
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills to lead and direct others; address conflict directly and appropriately.
- Demonstrate proficiency in charge nurse/preceptor role when assigned; coordinate patient care for the unit.
