Position Overview

The main function of this position is to provide direct and indirect care under supervision of the nurse to a selected group of residents. This role can be in the skilled care department or assisted living department. The minimum education, experience and qualifications for this position are: current certification as a nursing assistant with the Illinois Department of Public Health; ability to speak, read, write and comprehend English;

use of medical terminology; simple arithmetic; good communication skills; interest in working with older adults; and general knowledge of the needs of geriatric residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides direct restorative care per therapy prescription and assignment by the Restorative Nurse.
  • Documents residents’ progress accurately and in a timely fashion to verify that the specified nursing measure was completed in the appropriate computer program.
  • Assists other CNAs in carrying out restorative tasks.
  • Communicates daily with supervisor regarding performance of residents. Notifies supervisor when a resident appears to be regressing or refuses to participate in program.
  • Follows restorative nursing care policy and procedures.
  • Attends meetings as assigned, care‑plan conferences, and in‑service training sessions.
  • Works with therapies to facilitate transition from therapies to Restorative programs.
  • Participates as assigned to a QAPI project.
  • Responsible to learn and use standard functions within software and basic operation of computer to enhance efficiency in resident/patient service, assessment and/or clinical documentation. Use computers and software as required by work environment to enhance communication, performance and knowledge.
  • Completes all assigned computer education modules in a timely fashion.
  • Assists on the nursing units as a C.N.A. as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Restorative Nurse.
Qualifications & Skills
  • CNA Certification in the state of Illinois.
  • Restorative Certification preferred but not required.
  • CPR certified, accredited by American Heart Association.
  • Reading, writing, and comprehension skills needed to use medical terminology on the job.
  • Ability to do simple arithmetic.
  • Long‑term care experience preferred but not required.
  • General knowledge of the needs of general patients.
