Job Function:

The Senior Automation Engineering Technician plays a critical role in the design, construction, and maintenance of advanced automation systems that support manufacturing operations. This position demands strong hands-on technical expertise and the ability to troubleshoot and build automation equipment that aligns with performance, quality, and cost objectives. The technician collaborates closely with engineers and cross-functional teams to deliver innovative automation solutions in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Support engineers during the development and design phases of automation projects.
  • Assemble electrical and mechanical components for automation equipment in a team setting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout all stages of the project, including debugging and runoff.
  • Actively support and drive company-wide initiatives and improvement efforts.
  • Document and communicate technical changes and issues effectively.
  • Provide prompt and professional service to internal and external customers.
  • Coordinate with the Controls Engineer and Supervisor on open issues, timelines, and budgets.
  • Assist in mentoring and developing the team through leadership, training, and a positive attitude.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Consistently prioritize safety, quality, and timely delivery of equipment.
  • Safely and effectively troubleshoot wiring and circuits, follow NEC standards, and interpret schematics.
  • Write & modify PLC, HMI, and robot code.
  • Assist in planning the breakdown and installation of systems, beginning at the design phase.
  • Identify and implement best practices and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Follow standards set by automation team when designing and building machinery.

Required Skills:

  • Expertise in interpreting mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience with electrical and mechanical manufacturing equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading & writing ladder logic and robot code.
  • Ability to make and meet commitments in a fast paced, technology driven environment.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office.

Preference given to candidates with:

  • Knowledge of metal stamping
  • Metal finishing
  • Machining processes
  • Epson or ABB programming experience.

Education:

The minimum educational requirements listed below may be substituted by relevant experience, learned competencies and/or certifications obtained throughout one’s career.

  • Associate Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 years’ experience in machine building and controls
  • Work is in an office and heavy manufacturing environment
  • Must be able to perform light lifting < 50 lbs
  • Must wear safety glasses and job specific PPE performing work while in manufacturing area
  • Must wear company shirt, protective shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection in loud noise environments
  • Arc Flash rated clothing and shields as required by NFPA
    70E when working on live circuits.
  • Rubber gloves, Goggles and mask when working with hazardous chemicals
