In this hands-on role, you’ll operate and monitor treatment systems, collect and test water samples, and ensure plant equipment runs smoothly and efficiently.

This position is perfect for someone mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and eager to learn the science behind water treatment. You’ll receive on-the-job training while building the skills and certifications needed for a long-term career in public utilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Operate and monitor water treatment plant equipment including pumps, motors, valves, filters, chemical feed systems, and control panels
  • Collect water samples and perform routine laboratory tests (chlorine residual, pH, turbidity, etc.)
  • Record operational data and maintain logs and reports
  • Adjust chemical dosages and treatment processes under supervision
  • Inspect plant facilities and equipment to ensure proper operation
  • Perform routine maintenance and housekeeping duties
  • Respond to alarms and emergency situations
  • Comply with safety procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Respond to emergency system issues and participate in on-call rotation
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1-3 years’ experience in utility plant operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Possession of Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade I Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification at hire
  • Valid Driver's license of the appropriate class

The selected candidate who does not possess the required certification will be considered a trainee at the time of hire.
