Piping Project Engineer (Hybrid) - Orlando, FL
As a Piping Project Engineer, you will be responsible for designing piping systems that comply with codes, contracts, and schedules for gas turbine power projects across the Americas. This role involves responding to technical inquiries, integrating and improving design requirements, and working closely with the parent company to establish timelines and obtain critical documents. You will expedite subcontractors and review progress reports and shop visits, ensuring project contracts, schedules, and requirements are meticulously analyzed.
Responsibilities- Creating specs for pipes to generate a bill of materials.
- Review P&IDs
- Technical evaluation of piping commodities.
- Creating an engineering schedule from conception.
- Review contracts to ensure vendors are following the scope.
- Review the quality and pricing of vendor equipment.
- Procuring piping equipment and materials
- Interacting with vendors
- Generating bill of materials
- Conduct Pipe Stress Analysis
- Understand and interpret ASME B31.1 and B31.3 Codes.
- Ensure that piping code requirements are correctly defined and incorporated into the design and vendor requirements.
- Interpret and respond to piping technical inquiries from customers, vendors and field personnel with minimum supervision.
- Ability to review project contracts, schedules, and requirements in detail to determine piping requirements, deliverables, and deadlines.
- Ability to participate in project kick-off meeting, reviewing contract requirements, and develop/maintain master document list for piping and layout engineering group.
- Prepare inquiry and purchase specifications for piping fabrication, pipe supports, piping hardware, and special elements in piping systems (Flex Hoses, strainers, orifice plates, etc.)
- Ability to review isometrics and other piping-related mechanical drawings with minimum supervision.
- Ability to review P&IDs and equipment drawings against piping drawings.
- Ability to prepare piping component lists (valve list, specialty component list, etc.) using P&IDs and reports out of 3D models.
- Ability to extract reports out of piping 3D models.
- Establish corrective actions to reduce nonconformance and improve quality.
- General understanding of pipe stress analysis and pipe support.
- General knowledge of materials and piping hardware (bolts, nuts, and gaskets) in the preparation of piping,
- Valve and support technical specifications and subsequent purchasing
- Prepare technical piping specifications, and have experience in purchasing piping
- Interfacing with the stress analysis and design groups
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- 4 to 10 years of directly related technical experience.
- Proficiency in B31.1 and B31.3 codes.
- Experience with procurement and stress analysis.
- Ability to generate Bill of Materials.
- Master's degree in Engineering (desirable).
- P.E. license (desirable).
- Knowledge of 3D modeling software, particularly SP3D.
- Familiarity with Section II, PCC, MSS-SP, and PFI Codes.
- Familiarity with welding and NDE processes.
- Experience in industries such as Gas Turbines, Power Plants, Oil and Gas, and Paper Mill.
The work is based in Lake Mary, FL, which serves as the North American headquarters for Plant Engineering. This office is multidisciplinary, involving mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, controls, and project management functions. The team consists of over 100 professionals.
Job Type & Location- This is a Contract to Hire position based out of LAKE MARY, FL.
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.
