Job DescriptionCopia is seeking a Senior Associate, Commercial Operations to join our Energy Markets & Origination team to support the analysis and market impacts of our operational assets and future renewable and digital infrastructure developments. The role will be heavily focused on power and gas fundamentals, market pricing in WECC & ISOs, bidding support, monitoring and evaluating our operational forecasts, and providing ad-hoc reporting that will help support day-to-day commercial strategies.
The Senior Associate, Commercial Operations will report directly to the Director, Energy Markets, working closely with Copia’s asset management, energy markets, legal, and finance teams in an individual contributor capacity.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze supply, demand, pricing, generation, and transmission data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities that would impact our portfolio of assets and power markets
- Develop and maintain quantitative models for price forecasting, congestion analysis, and generation dispatch simulation.
- Support trading and portfolio management teams with data-driven insights on market fundamentals and forward curves.
- Create Python- or R-based tools and dashboards to automate analysis and visualize real-time market dynamics.
- Collaborate with forecasters, asset management, scheduling coordinators, and strategists to optimize bidding strategies and evaluate policy or regulatory impacts.
- Prepare and present analytical reports and insights to leadership and commercial and operational stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written correspondence.

- Bachelor’s in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related fields.
- 4+ years of experience in energy analytics, quantitative research, or power market operations (ISO/RTO experience preferred)
- Analytic, modeling, and fundamental research skills including demonstrated capability utilizing programming languages (writing, reading and editing code)
- Strong proficiency in Python, R, or MATLAB for data analysis and modeling.
- Familiarity with SQL databases, APIs, and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
- Understanding of fundamental drivers of electricity and gas markets—generation stack, congestion, renewables, and transmission and pipeline constraints.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical insights to non-technical audiences.
- Proven experience with Microsoft Office, including advanced proficiency in PowerPoint & Excel
- Ability to work in the Lake Oswego, OR, Dana Point, CA, Phoenix, AZ, or Salt Lake City, UT office a minimum of 3 days per week.
- Ability to travel up to 25%
