Summary

The Project Archaeologist 1 position is a mid- to upper-level role supervised by senior-level cultural resources management (CRM) staff. It serves as a subject matter expert in CRM and requires a Master’s Degree in anthropology or archaeology or a closely related field, with specialized training and experience in CRM. The role provides mid- to upper-level cultural resources support to internal and external clients, including proposal writing, research, documentation, report preparation, public involvement, and agency and tribal coordination under NHPA and NEPA.

Responsibilities include synthesizing background research, identifying and documenting cultural resources, conducting or assisting in monitoring, survey, testing, lab work, and managing field data; producing small- to moderate-scale CRM reports; drafting sections for broader CRM reporting; assembling stakeholder and consulting party lists (including tribal entities); arranging and participating in CRM consultation meetings; and preparing correspondence related to CRM investigations and activities.

The position also manages project schedules, field crews, field data, and report production. A Project Archaeologist 1 should have a progressively responsible 6- to 10-year track record as a CRM professional.

  • Field studies and investigations

Able to consistently meet budget and schedule expectations on projects. Develops budgets and schedules for complex tasks. Breaks down complex projects into logical tasks.
