Join Dennis’ 7 Dees as a Garden Center Indoor Lead, where you’ll turn your houseplant expertise into a career helping customers create thriving indoor gardens. In this dynamic role, you’ll lead both our indoor plant department and cashier team while serving as a key point of contact for customers, providing expert advice on plant care and selection, processing transactions, answering countless questions both in person and over the phone, and maintaining the health and presentation of our indoor plant collection.
While indoor plant knowledge is a mut-have for this role, a broad understanding of outdoor plants and gardening will make you invaluable to customers and fellow staff alike. You’ll design beautiful and engaging displays that showcase the latest trends in indoor greenery, collaborate with our buyers to support purchasing functions, and help drive sales through exceptional customer service. As a leader in our store, you’ll influence our reputation as a trusted resource for houseplant enthusiasts and help drive our mission of excellence in the industry.
- Support buyers in purchasing functions by providing product insights, sales trends, and inventory feedback for your department.
- Lead the cashier team, delivering memorable customer service by utilizing horticultural knowledge and sales skills.
- Process customer transactions efficiently and accurately using our POS system.
- Problem-solve to address customers’ horticultural questions and issues both in person and over the phone.
- Answer and direct phone calls promptly and professionally.
- Plan and execute engaging and strategic merchandise layouts that drive sales and enhance customer experience.
- Educate staff on marketing initiatives, product features, and horticultural care standards to ensure consistent and informed customer interactions.
- Maintain department inventory accuracy, including pricing updates and special order coordination.
- Support coworkers by providing resources and facilitating sales.
- Operate and troubleshoot POS system and inventory database.
- Coordinate and arrange customer deliveries with timely follow-through.
- Work collaboratively with store management and other department leads to achieve sales goals and operational excellence.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing store environment.
- Perform duties both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Horticultural Expertise. Strong horticulture knowledge related to indoor plants and your department’s product categories, with working knowledge of common plants (annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, houseplants).
- Customer service and sales. 1 year of sales experience minimum, with a proven ability to engage customers and drive sales, and at least 1 year of cashier experience.
- Industry Experience. Minimum of 2 years of experience in a garden center or similar retail environment.
- Plant care. Solid understanding of indoor plant care practices, including proper watering schedule, light exposure, soil preferences & early identification of plant stress and or pests.
- Merchandising. Ability to thoughtfully merchandise indoor plants & accompanying products to create cohesive & attractive displays while maintaining plant health and accessibility.
- Familiarity with inventory management processes and POS systems.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds regularly throughout the day and push/pull up to 200 pounds with castors.
- Ability to work in an indoor/outdoor environment during all weather conditions.
- This position is located at our Lake Oswego, OR garden center location.
- Hours of operation are 9am-6pm, 7 days a week.
- Schedules are not static and open availability both Saturdays and Sundays is required.
- This is a full-time, year-round position. 20-40 weekly hours dependent on season and workload.
- Wages start at $19.50-$21.00 per hour, dependent upon experience.
