The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Tour Boat Operator at West Lake Park/Anne Kolb Nature Center.

General Description

The purpose of this class within the organization is to provide safe and informative tour boat rides.

This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Minimum

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires one (1) yearin operating and maintaining a boat or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

United States Coast Guard issued Master's License.

First Aid Certification.

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Commercial Radio Operators License.

Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License with authority to drive a county vehicle for duration of appointment.

Preferences:

Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Additional Information:

All candidates must complete an extensive ten (10) year work history verification and criminal background check which includes post-offer physical examination and drug testing. Ability to maintain authorization to operate a county vehicle/equipment.

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Coordinates annual inspections with United States Coast Guard (USCG); provides USCG with current master's license, first aid/CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and radio license, boat log, safety drills, paperwork and repairs needed to pass inspection and maintains current certificate of inspection.

Delivers an accurate narrated guided boat tour while safely operating the vessel; provides routine inspections, maintenance, cleaning and repairs of the Anne Kolb tour boat and engine; maintains boat log and makes accurate entries.

Takes tour boat to the fuel dock for fuel; conducts and logs required safety drills with crew; coordinates boat tour schedule with supervisor and provides schedule sheets for the office staff; secures and/or relocates the tour boat before severe weather conditions.

Performs related work as assigned.

Physical Demands

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

Involves routine and frequent exposure to vibration; fumes and/or noxious odors.
