REPORTS TO .. Assistant Principal for Student Services

LENGTH OF CONTRACT .. 10 month (208 days)

PRIOR EXPERIENCE . Administrative experience preferred

EVALUATION . Evaluation by Assistant Principal for Student Services

JOB GOAL(S):
The Dean of Students is directly responsible to the Assistant Principal for Student Services for all matters pertaining to student discipline and attendance. This individual will support the district mission and vision by assisting with the development, implementation, and monitoring of a school-wide discipline and attendance plan to promote positive culture and climate through the use of restorative and equitable practices.

The Dean of Students will design and maintain programs that promote student wellness and family connections that result in a collaborative partnership that fosters student success.

MAJOR DUTIES & PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The criteria indicated below are intended to describe various types of work that may be performed. The exclusion of specific responsibilities does not prohibit them if the work is similar, related, or a logical task of the position.

* Assists the Principal with the supervision and evaluation of certified and non-certified faculty and staff assigned to responsibilities in the areas of student attendance and discipline

* Maintains accountability for all student attendance in a timely fashion

* Ensures handbooks are properly revised, ordered, and distributed to students in a timely manner

* Ensures student discipline on the school premises, both within the school and on the school grounds, at school-sponsored or sanctioned events, and on buses traveling to and from such events.

* Takes appropriate disciplinary actions consistent with rule violations as promulgated in the Student/Parent Handbook.

* Implements necessary procedures to ensure compliance with compulsory attendance laws.

* Monitors Attendance and Discipline Office procedures, and makes recommendations to the administrative team on modifications, which need to be made.

* Develops intervention plans in concert with counselors, teachers, parents, social workers and community agencies to ensure that students are provided the support necessary to be successful, thus making our practices more efficient and effective.

* Oversees the School Resource Officer as well as the contracted security staff

* Works with Curriculum & Instruction to create a supervision schedule for staff

* Coordinates our students participation in Lake County Tech Campus

* Develops, implements, and maintains a committee designed to communicate matters of discipline and attendance to students, parents, teachers and others in the community.

* Coordinates the assignment of parking permits for faculty/staff and students

* Implement, monitor, and report on tiered student behavior intervention tools

* Manages school safety/security plans for training and communications (Navigate & ALICE)

* Assists, as assigned, with the supervision of student activities including, but not limited to, athletic activities, co-curricular activities, and school dances.

* Visibility throughout building hallways, cafeteria, and common area. Overall an active presence throughout the building as it relates to the success of the positive school culture, both day-to-day and long-term.

* Will evaluate support staff personnel within the Dean's & Attendance Offices

* Serves as a member of the administrative team, and assists in the identification of and solutions to challenges facing the school
