PURPOSE

To prepare learners to achieve their personal best; continue the learning prescribed for that day; provide direction for each student as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular teacher.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Report to the main office upon arrival to check in and receive instructions.
  • Arrive on time, following the workday hours outlined in the Substitute Teacher Handbook.
  • Review substitute plans and prepare for the day's lessons.
  • Familiarize yourself with the building layout and introduce yourself to available staff.
  • Seek assistance as needed to ensure a successful teaching experience.
  • Uphold all District policies, rules, and procedures applicable to regular teachers.
  • Follow established classroom routines, procedures, and management techniques as outlined by the absent teacher.
  • Teach the lessons provided in the substitute plans and adapt as necessary to meet student needs.
  • Create a positive learning environment by:
    Communicating expectations clearly.;
    Differentiating instruction for individual learners.;
    Actively engaging students in learning activities.;
    Maintaining a safe and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Monitor and manage student behavior in the classroom and during supervisory duties throughout the school.
  • Maintain high professional standards in interactions and responsibilities.
  • Respond to emergency situations by providing clear direction to students and following school protocols.
  • Follow the absent teacher's instructions for concluding the day, such as organizing student work and tidying the classroom.
  • Perform absent teacher's supervisory duties.
  • Provide feedback to the absent teacher, detailing student behavior, lesson completion, and any adjustments made.
  • Provide additional feedback to the principal as requested.
  • Report to the main office at the end of the day to check out and finalize any required documentation.
  • If you are a long-term substitute, assume all duties and responsibilities of the full-time teacher, including:
    Lesson planning;
    Communicating with parents;
    Preparing report cards;
    Attending teacher workdays, including parent-teacher conferences (evenings) and institute days, unless alternative arrangements are approved by the building principal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

At-will. Day-to-day within the school year. Salary to be established by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Building Principal or Dean in accordance with provisions of Board policy.

  • Elementary Positions:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, talk, hear, walk and sit. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books or other materials. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Middle School Positions:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books or other materials.

    The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being or work output of other people.
  • Music:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will continuously stand, and occasionally walk and sit and talk or hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to push or lift up to 25 lbs such as musical instruments.
