Special Education Teacher

GENERAL FUNCTION Coordinates, oversees and provides individual and group instruction in order to meet the educational needs of special education students within the school program. Implements effective interventions and strategies for working with students with disabilities within a therapeutic day school. Provides direction and oversight in how to effectively work with student behavior within a therapeutic day school setting. Provides direction and supervision to Paraprofessionals.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Coordinates, oversees and provides individual and group educational instruction to students. Prepares lesson plans; differentiates instruction; and develops and implements curriculum and intervention programs.
2. Attends staff in-services, ISBE mandatory trainings, team meetings and supervision.
3. Involvement in crisis intervention which may require the use of physical restraint or time out following ISBE RTO requirements and Allendale’s Behavior Management Policy.
4. Maintains certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI).5. Oversees and monitors the mandatory cumulative classroom records; and prepares and maintains confidential student reports, data collection, progress monitoring and other information related to students and the Special Educational Program.
6. Maintains knowledge of current field trends; maintains membership in appropriate internal and external committees and professional organizations. Attends appropriate training programs.
7. Manages and monitors classroom records and attendance; develops and implements IEPs.
8. Supervises students during non-classtime, lunch, and bus duty.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCEA.

REQUIRED:

1. Bachelor’s degree in education
2. LBS1 license or endorsement
3. Knowledge of Special Education laws, rules and regulations
