This Environmental Specialist I position with the Florida Department of Health in Polk County manages the Stationary Tanks Inspection Program under the Environmental Health Division. The role performs compliance inspections of regulated storage tank systems, tracks violations, conducts installation and closure inspections, and ensures facilities comply with state environmental codes. The position requires detailed knowledge of storage tank construction and operation, environmental record interpretation, and regulatory requirements.
Key qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in physical or natural sciences or engineering, plus two years of professional experience in environmental protection, regulation, or health
- Knowledge of construction, operation, inspection or maintenance of mechanical systems
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and annual 8-hour recertification required by DEP contract
- Valid Florida Class E Driver's License
- Ability to work independently and with the general public
- Knowledge of environmental field work and standard written English
