Position Summary:
The Campus Safety and Security Officer is responsible for helping maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, visitors, and guests of Warner University. The Officer serves as a visible security presence on campus, monitors and reports campus activity, responds to calls for service and emergencies, enforces University policies and regulations, and provides assistance to members of the campus community.
The Officer will also assist local law enforcement, fire/EMS personnel, and other emergency responders as needed. Campus Safety and Security Officers are expected to demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, integrity, and a service-oriented approach while carrying out their responsibilities.
- Conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols of campus buildings, parking areas, residence halls, athletic facilities, and other University property.
- Maintain a visible security presence and proactively identify, investigate, document, and report safety and security concerns, suspicious activity, disturbances, property damage, theft, and potential violations of University policies.
- Encourage members of the campus community to comply with Warner University rules and enforce University policies and regulations when appropriate.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
- Monitor and respond to security alarms, fire alarms, access-control systems, emergency phones, cameras, and other security systems as assigned.
- Control access to campus buildings and facilities according to established procedures, including locking and unlocking facilities, conducting building checks, and verifying identification when special access is requested.
- Initiate requests for assistance from law enforcement, fire/EMS, or other public safety agencies when necessary to protect the safety and security of the campus community.
- Assist local law enforcement, fire/EMS personnel, and other emergency responders when they respond to campus.
- In cases of an immediate safety threat, assist in securing the affected area and implementing applicable emergency response procedures within the scope of the Officer's training and authority.
- Assist with emergency response, evacuations, severe weather events, medical emergencies, hazardous conditions, and other critical incidents.
- Prepare clear, accurate, objective, and timely written reports, including incident reports, daily activity logs, safety checklists, exterior lighting reports, and other required documentation.
- Provide relevant facts, observations, actions taken, persons involved, notifications made, and other information necessary for appropriate incident follow-up.
- Obtain and/or maintain current CPR/AED and First Aid certification and provide assistance within the scope of training when needed.
- Respond to requests for assistance and information in a helpful, professional, and courteous manner.
- Provide security escorts, directions, motorist assistance, and other reasonable assistance to members of the campus community.
- Assist with traffic control, parking enforcement, special events, athletic events, and other University activities as assigned.
- Monitor residence halls and other campus areas for unauthorized access, safety hazards, disturbances, and violations of University policy.
- Identify, document, and report maintenance, lighting, security, facility, and other safety concerns.
- Operate University vehicles, radios, security equipment, and related technology in accordance with established procedures.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
- Establish and maintain professional working relationships with local law enforcement agencies, emergency services, University departments, students, faculty, staff, visitors, and guests.
- Participate in required training, emergency drills, meetings, and professional development activities.
- Perform other duties related to the safety and security of Warner University as assigned.
- Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
- Must have the ability to respond quickly to incidents, including running a short distance when necessary.
- Ability to climb and descend stairs.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
