Role Overview

The Superintendent in our commercial construction company is responsible for the day-to-day field supervision of commercial construction projects, ensuring work is performed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with contract documents and quality standards. This role provides on-site leadership, coordinates subcontractors and trades, and serves as the primary point of control for field operations on projects ranging from $1 million to $20 million.

Responsibilities
Field Operations and Site Leadership
  • Manage daily on-site construction activities from project start through completion.
  • Supervise and coordinate subcontractors, trades, and field personnel to maintain workflow and productivity.
  • Enforce job-site safety standards and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Maintain overall site cleanliness, organization, and security.
Schedule and Productivity Management
  • Develop, maintain, and actively manage the project construction schedule in coordination with the Project Manager.
  • Plan and sequence work to ensure timely completion of project milestones.
  • Identify schedule risks and implement corrective actions to minimize delays.
Quality Control and Compliance
  • Ensure construction work is performed in accordance with contract documents, drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Conduct regular inspections of work in progress and completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Coordinate inspections with owners, architects, engineers, and regulatory authorities.
Coordination and Communication
  • Lead daily and weekly job-site meetings with subcontractors and project stakeholders.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with project managers, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and internal teams.
  • Document daily activities, progress, safety observations, and issues using company systems.
Documentation and Technology Use
  • Utilize construction management software, scheduling tools, and digital documentation systems.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, schedules, punch lists, and field reports.
  • Review and support the resolution of field-related RFIs and change conditions in coordination with the Project Manager.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 3+ years of construction experience, with direct field supervision on commercial projects ranging from $1 million to $20 million.
  • Proven experience managing subcontractors and multiple trades on active construction sites.
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial construction methods, sequencing, and safety practices.
  • Computer literacy required, including the ability to use construction management and documentation software.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
