The City of Lake Worth Beach invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Milsoft GIS Coordinator – GRANT.
The Full‑Time, Non‑Bargaining, Non‑Exempt position has an hourly rate of $29.36 – $38.82. The position is located at the Utilities Building, 1900 2nd Avenue North, Lake Worth, FL 33461.
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Grid Deployment Office has selected the City of Lake Worth Beach for investment via the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) program to enhance grid flexibility, install reclosers and other sectionalizing devices, integrate battery energy storage for community solar, install fiber optics, deploy advanced metering infrastructure, and deploy a meter data management system.
Positions covered under this GRIP Grant will expire or terminate in accordance with the grant’s timeline. The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday, and all positions are in‑person and/or on‑site.
JOB SUMMARYUnder limited supervision and direction from the Assistant Director Transmission and Distribution Engineering, the Milsoft GIS Coordinator updates the Milsoft Geographic Information System with data related to and specific to the electric utility. The coordinator maintains and updates GIS data to support the electric utility’s efforts in ensuring system reliability, tracking key infrastructure components such as pole types, transformers, reclosers, fiber optic systems, and line replacements.
Accurate, up‑to‑date GIS data help optimize network performance, aid in future infrastructure planning, and improve overall system reliability and resilience.
All candidates must be United States citizens.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Maintain and update GIS data within Milsoft and related software, ensuring accurate records of key electric utility infrastructure.
- Use Milsoft to track and update locations and configurations of transformers, poles, reclosers, and fiber optic systems.
- Collaborate with employees to gather accurate data from on‑site inspections and integrate the information into Milsoft GIS.
- Generate and maintain maps, schematics, and reports using Milsoft and related software.
- Identify and troubleshoot discrepancies in GIS data, resolving errors to ensure system information is accurate and reliable for planning and operations.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all Milsoft GIS updates and changes.
- Work closely with engineers and other employees to align Milsoft data with operational needs, regulatory requirements, and future planning initiatives.
- Prepare regular reports on GIS updates, system configurations, and changes to the electric utility infrastructure.
Other related duties may be assigned as needed.
SUPERVISIONThis role has no supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, or a related field (preferred).
- Two (2) years of GIS experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Workflow automation knowledge using Python, Windows Batch, Power Shell, T‑SQL, or related techniques (preferred).
- Direct experience in the electric utility industry or similar (preferred).
- Valid automobile driver’s license.
- Knowledge of Milsoft GIS (preferred).
- Experience designing and implementing Microsoft SQL Server interfaces between ArcGIS software and other systems for spatial and statistical analysis.
- Ability to train staff in Milsoft GIS and related software applications.
- Experience in application development, implementation, and GIS data backup and recovery.
- Skill in resolving software and hardware maintenance and upgrade incompatibilities.
- Ability to coordinate the transfer of existing manual data into the GIS.
- Experience responding to the City Emergency Operations Center and updating maps during incidents.
- Ability to handle map information requests from local, county, and state entities related to electrical infrastructure.
