Title:

INSPECTOR – INTERNAL AFFAIRS. This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service Inspector position located in Region 5 reporting to the Office of the Inspector General, Bureau of Internal Affairs.

Protect and promote public integrity and accountability within the Department through investigations, audits, and inspections. Aim to detect and prevent fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct, ensuring efficient operation and upholding ethical conduct.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct and lead complex investigations involving waste, fraud, abuse, public corruption, serious employee misconduct, and whistle blower investigations.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of OIG investigations and inquiries, following investigative procedures, interviewing complainants, witnesses, and subjects related to alleged violations of state law or departmental procedures.
  • Write and review final investigative reports.
  • Plan, lead, investigate, and conduct administrative (internal affairs or OIG), financial, and public corruption investigations.
  • Conduct comprehensive whistle blower reviews and related investigations pursuant to FSS 112.3187 (Florida Whistle blower’s Act).
  • Coordinate OIG investigations with the Office of the Chief Inspector General, Executive Office of the Governor.

Requirements
  • Valid Correctional Officer or Correctional Probation Officer certification issued by Florida Department of Law Enforcement / Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.
  • At least 3 years of full‑time experience as a Correctional Officer or Correctional Probation Officer.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • At least 1 year of investigative experience.
  • Official transcripts required if selected (for college/university degree).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Florida Statutes:
    Law Enforcement Officers’ and Correctional Officers’ Rights.
  • Excellent time‑management and organization skills.
  • Strong report‑writing skills.
  • Strong investigative skills emphasizing comprehensive investigations and interviews.
Background Screening Requirement

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all applicants to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes before starting employment.

Employment Eligibility
