Summary
Under direction, the purpose of the position is to transport campers to and from various camp recreation activities and planned events. Employees in this classification are responsible for assisting any special needs campers in and out of the transportation vehicle. The objective is to provide safe transportation within the county for campers and recreation staff.
EssentialJob Duties
- Operate transportation vehicle with heightened awareness of driving conditions and surroundings and in observance of established safety precautions and driving procedures.
- Stop vehicle at assigned locations and destinations, assist campers on and off vehicle; render sensitive assistance to riders with special needs; assume responsibility for the safety of all passengers.
- Familiarize Transportation Aides with all phases of transportation and emergency evacuation.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Instruct children in safety precautions and practices; conduct emergency evacuation drills with students on buses, as needed.
- Maintain discipline on the bus; report unruly behavior to camp administrator.
- Perform safety inspection of the bus prior to departure and report defects or problems with vehicle to superior; monitor mechanical condition, e.g., gasoline, oil, fluids, tires, brakes.
- Work with camp staff to effectively and safely provide transportation to and from various camp outings.
- Other duties may be required or assigned.
Employee must possess and maintain a Valid CDL Class B Florida Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
High school diploma or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Valid CDL Class B Florida Driver’s License with a clean driving record; prior experience driving a bus for children is preferred.
Physical DemandsPosition may require an individual to be seated for extended periods of time. Some heavy (45 pounds and over) lifting and carrying. Reaching, pulling, pushing, balancing, throwing. Ability to climb into cab of vehicle or equipment. Acceptable eyesight and hearing, with or without correction, is required. Reasonable accommodations will be made for otherwise qualified individuals with a disability.
Environmental ConditionsEmployee may be subjected to varying and changing weather conditions as well as noise, fumes, gases, odors, slippery and uneven surfaces. Reasonable accommodations will be made for otherwise qualified individuals with a disability.
Benefits- Pension Plan:
Mandatory 3% employee contribution of gross salary; fully vested after eight (8) years. - Health Insurance:
Humana HMO Premier Plan (in‑network coverage only). There is no out‑of‑network medical coverage. - Dental Insurance:

Group Life Insurance policy of $50,000 paid for by the Village for employees. - Weekly Payroll Deductions:
- Employee Only: $17.31 per week
- Employee +1: $53.08 per week
- Employee +2: $85.38 per week
- Employee Family: $109.62 per week
- Insurance coverage becomes effective the 1st of the month following the 60th day of employment.
- Holidays: 13 paid holidays per year. Police Holiday paid or compensated at ten (10) hours; birthday holiday at eight (8) hours, which must be requested and approved by supervisor and taken in the same week as the birthday occurs.
- Personal Leave Time:
Accrues weekly from hire date at a rate depending on length of service. Can be used, paid, after six (6) months.
All positions serve a one (1) year probationary period.
