Environmental Scientist​/Engineer - Journeyman

Position Overview

Senior Environmental Scientist/Engineer – Responsible for assisting with the U.S. Air Force’s Environmental Restoration Program by providing advisory and assistance (A&A) services to AFCEC/CZO and CZR.

Estimated starting salary range:

• Provide specialized advisory and assistance (A&A) support services to the Air Force, including environmental restoration program management processes.
• Oversee environmental investigation and remediation contracts, reviewing deliverables such as work plans, investigation reports, and recurring performance reports.
• Conduct safety briefings and escort remediation contractors into controlled areas, providing controlled‑area safety briefings.
• Develop statements of work and independent government estimates for environmental investigation and remediation contracts.
• Conduct data gap analysis using ERPIMS data and submit Data Gap reports.
• Develop and refine current‑year and outyear project requirements to move sites toward closure.
• Review environmental investigation and remediation project schedules.
• Update Management Action Plans, Community Relations Plans, and other installation documents with the latest site‑cleanup information and status.
• Assist with technical presentations to Air Force stakeholders in coordination with various project stakeholders.
• Manage technical teams, distribute workload, and ensure timely deliverable submissions.
• Interact and correspond with installation and AFCEC program managers.
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in an accredited engineering or scientific discipline (master’s degree may be substituted based on experience).
• 3–10 years of experience in environmental restoration under RCRA and CERCLA, including performance‑based remediation (P ) and optimized remediation contracts (ORC) with federal agencies.
• Experience with contract acquisition processes using contract vehicles such as Air Force, GSA, and USACE.
• Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations, DERP, and FAR, including site investigation, cleanup, and closure.
• Preferred: experience interacting with state and federal regulatory agencies.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to multitask and meet aggressive deadlines.
• U.S. citizenship and a DoD security clearance (NACI or higher) required; this position also requires an active Secret clearance.
• Applicants will be subject to a DoD security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements.
• Must pass pre‑employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
