A Cryogenic Technician will perform day‑to‑day operations in the Cryogenics shop, including fabrication of cables and harnesses for Oxygen and Nitrogen servicing equipment, high‑pressure piping assemblies, wiring and piping layouts for CSS 2000gl tank installs, and other Cryogenic equipment installations. The role supports the Cryogenics Depot Center (DRP‑14) by providing Nitrogen and Oxygen specialty gases to Fleet Readiness Center customers and by coordinating bulk liquid transfers and specialty gas deliveries.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development, testing, and validation of prototype high-pressure gaseous systems used to support Navy and Marine Corps flight operations.
  • Develop and execute manufacturing processes for support equipment related to the Cryogenic field.
  • Adhere to standard operating and safety procedures within the DRP‑14 workspace and ensure protocols are met.
  • Operate liquid and gaseous nitrogen and oxygen generation systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and perform corrective actions to prevent major component failure, resulting in significant cost savings.
  • Fill orders and issue cryogenics products and supplies per customer request, and document all transactions.
  • Prepare requests for supplies and material for support equipment, and keep records of the cryogenics supply inventory.
  • Assist with the transfer of cryogenic liquids from large systems to smaller containers for distribution.
  • Load and unload cryogenic products such as nitrogen and oxygen cylinders in liquid and gas form.
  • Deliver and retrieve empty cylinders, valve connectors, replacement fittings, and cryogenic supplies to and from Fleet Readiness Center locations.
  • Coordinate routine preventative maintenance with the Engineering Group on cryogenics filling stations, high-pressure cylinders, Dewars, and vacuum pumps, including changing fluids, purging, pre-cooling, and cleaning various systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems of cryogenic systems and containers, remove ice plugs, detect leaks, and fix or replace relief valves.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, or dollies to move cryogenic containers or reorganize inventory.
  • Use a computerized system to generate invoices, receipts, and track inventory.
  • Inform supervisors of the need for additional standard stock items or cryogenic products.
  • Communicate and schedule with outside contractors for the pickup and delivery of cryogenic servicing equipment.
Qualifications
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required customer clearance for access to systems, facilities, equipment, and property.
  • Experience with high-pressure (1,000psi+) gaseous or liquid systems.
  • Knowledge of hazardous systems such as cryogenic, flammable, hypergolic, and pyrophoric.
  • Knowledge of pressure vessel system safety protocol and proper handling.
  • Ability to lift 25lbs. or more.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience working with machines and general tooling.
  • Experience in process piping installation, especially stainless steel, CPVC, and cryogenic applications.
  • General knowledge of pressure fitting types (Compression, JIC, NPT, MP/HP).
  • Demonstrated experience where quick‑thinking and problem-solving play a critical role.
  • Use of precision measuring instruments (calipers, torque wrenches, gauges).
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to read hydrostatic testing dates on cylinders for filling of oxygen and nitrogen gases.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools (wrenches, grinders, sanders, pipe cutters, and other equipment).
Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience; or an Associate’s degree with a minimum of one year of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
