Conservation Engagement and Education / Florida Youth Conservation Center Network Overview

This advertisement is for three (3) weekday full-time seasonal employment positions based out of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's (FWC) Tenoroc Youth Conservation Center in Lakeland. The successful candidates will join our team from May 15 - July 30, 2026. These positions will assist in the delivery of summer camp programming which will embody the four pillars of the Florida Youth Conservation Centers Network (FYCCN):
Shooting Sports, Fishing, Boating, and Wildlife Discovery. FYCCN works to get kids outdoors and create the next generation that cares. TYCC will host six (6) weeks of summer camp in 2026. Four (4) different camps will be offered including:
Precision Sports Camp (shooting sports of archery and firearms), Hooks and Hulls Camp (ethical angling and boating), Outdoor Adventure Camp (archery, angling, kayaking, wildlife discovery), and Conservation Careers camp (showcasing careers within the FWC).

This position will work alongside teammates to provide a safe and educational summer camp experience for youth ages 8 – 16.

Experience
  • Experience working with youth and the noted pillar activities is preferred.
  • High School Diploma is required with preference for applicants having completed or seeking a higher education degree.
Description of Duties

Provide support as assigned in the facilitation of summer camp activities.

  • Assist with program facilitation as assigned (shooting sports, hunter safety, archery, freshwater fishing, canoeing, kayaking, wildlife viewing and exploration, etc.).
  • Help maintain camp educational supplies and equipment to keep them stocked, clean, organized, and in working order; perform inventory as assigned.

Ensure education programs are following American Camp Association (ACA) standards.

  • Supervise daily summer camp activities as assigned (set up, clean up, leading programming, supporting fellow staff, etc.).
  • Address minor program changes, behavioral issues, etc. and level-up to Camp Director as appropriate. Enforce Camp Code of Conduct.
  • Complete required training related to ACA standards and be familiar with/follow all policies regarding camper safety, risk management, reporting, etc.
  • Perform safety inspections of equipment and sites where programming takes place.

Communicate effectively with campers, families, and camp partners and staff through in-person, and program interactions.

  • Provide a welcoming and positive experience for campers through program interactions.
  • Provide positive guest service to camp families.
  • Participate in meetings, mobile phone communications, etc. as needed with TYCC staff to foster collaborative working relationships.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with others; work independently, take initiative, and work creatively to solve problems.
  • Ensure that files/documentation are complete, accurate, and confidentially maintained.
  • Complete and submit timesheets and required reports in a timely and thorough manner.

Assist with facility operations outside of education programs as required.

  • Assist with janitorial cleaning of the facility as needed (classroom space, restrooms, pavilions, storage sheds, etc.).
  • Assist with daily camper check-in and check-out.
  • Monitor the health and wellness of campers and provide treatment according to your level of certification as assigned by the Camp Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be comfortable with working in adverse weather conditions such as heat and rain.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be comfortable handling firearms (training will be provided) and working in environments with loud noises.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of one or more of FYCCN’s Four Pillars: shooting sports, fishing, paddle sports, and wildlife exploration.
  • Knowledge of regional ecosystems and sustainable wildlife management practices preferred.
