Position Summary

The Program Director of the Cardiology Fellowship Program is responsible for the leadership, organization, operation, and general administration of the Cardiology Fellowship Program sponsored by Lakeland Regional Health (LRH). The Program Director establishes the strategic direction of the program and is responsible for the standards, quality and reputation of the program. The Program Director is expected to integrate the Cardiology Fellowship Program with physician practices and hospital clinical services in a manner that enhances value and quality and promotes an optimal environment for professional practice and medical education.

Drives efforts to advance residency education through accreditation.

Program Director Responsibilities & Standard Work
  • Standard Work:
    Director - Cardiology fellowship Program.
  • Organize and direct the Cardiology Fellowship Program at LRH, including the organization of rotations and other educational activities at all clinical sites that participate in the program. This includes ensuring the quality of didactic and clinical education in all sites that participate in the program.
  • Dedicate no less than 30% (at least 12 hours per week) of total professional effort to the administrative and educational activities of the Cardiology educational program. Be available and accessible to residents at the primary teaching site(s). Oversee development of an effective resident advising program. Supervise any Cardiology subspecialty training programs sponsored by the institution and linked to the core program to ensure compliance with the ACGME accreditation standards.

    Hold supervisory authority over all educational tracks in the Cardiology Fellowship Program. Ensure that the program does not place excessive reliance on residents for service as opposed to education. Maintain active clinical practice in Cardiology. Recruit and select candidates for the residency program through the National Residency Matching Program.
