Youth Build Lakeland is a full-time six-month program in which young adults who are 18-24 years of age work to improve their lives in a variety of ways. While in the program, participants receive classroom instruction to prepare for the GED exam.
Responsibilities:Youth Build Lakeland is a full-time six-month program in which young adults who are 18-24 years of age work to improve their lives in a variety of ways. While in the program, participants receive classroom instruction to prepare for the GED exam. There is also a strong emphasis placed on personal development, job placement, leadership development, and community service. The teacher will report to the Youth Build Senior Program Manager.
Manage placement activities including collecting required documentation for verification purposes, creating partnerships with local businesses and organizations to create opportunities for graduates of the program, and developing individual career plans in collaboration with participants of the program. Provide career development training and education (i.e. resumes, interviewing, career exploration, scheduling guest speakers, etc.). Assist with the recruitment of applicants for the program and provide on-going support.
Must establish collaboration with Career Source Polk and other training and employment agencies.
Responsible for job and post-secondary education placement.
Provide monthly and quarterly reports. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned including work in other functional areas to cover absences or relief to equalize peak work periods or otherwise balance the workload., also serving as a mentor to the participants, and providing on-going graduate support.
Qualifications:- Bachelor’s degree in education, Psychology, or related field preferred
- Two years’ experience working with children in an educational setting
- Must possess a strong commitment to helping young people succeed in an innovative training program to reorient their lives, nurture their leadership skills and enable them to make a difference in their community.
- Ability to establish rapport and relate sensitively to a multi-racial and multi-cultural group of young people. Understanding of the issues facing young people in the community where the program is located and a willingness to learn from young people.
- Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills and the ability to relate to a wide range of issues, people and institutions.
- Knowledge of human service, health, court and criminal justice systems’ programs, regulations, procedures and alternative programs.
