RK&K is seeking a Rail Inspector to support rail and transit construction projects. This role is ideal for individuals with rail, transit, or heavy civil inspection experience who enjoy field work and contributing to the safe, successful delivery of transportation infrastructure.

Essential Functions
  • Perform construction inspections on rail and transit projects to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and applicable regulations
  • Observe and document contractor activities, including track work, structures, systems, and related rail facilities
  • Complete daily inspection reports, field notes, measurements, and checklists
  • Identify nonconforming work and coordinate with project teams to support resolution
  • Assist with testing, verification, and quality assurance activities as required
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, contractors, and client representatives
  • Support safety compliance and maintain awareness of active rail environments
Required Skills and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years experience in rail, transit, or transportation construction inspection or related field experience (construction, surveying, military, or maintenance backgrounds considered)
  • Working knowledge of rail construction practices, materials, and safety requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to work independently in an active field environment, including nights or weekends as project schedules require
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Rail or transit agency experience (e.g., commuter rail, light rail, heavy rail, or metro systems)
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., NICET, state DOT, or rail-specific certifications)
