The Land Surveyor-in-Training (LSIT) performs many of the duties associated with a Project Surveyor while developing the technical expertise and professional judgment necessary for licensure. This role requires increasing independence in executing work procedures and methods while operating under the responsible charge and supervision of a Licensed Land Surveyor.

Key Responsibilities Project Planning & Coordination- Review and understand project scope, schedule, and deliverables with the Project Manager (PM).
- Monitor project timelines and ensure adherence to deadlines.
- Perform research and calculations to prepare for fieldwork, including:
- Analysis of subject parcel deeds and adjoining property deeds.
- Retrieval of published and historical survey control data.
- Prepare field deliverables and files for survey crews, including:
- Trimble Connect files
- Control and calculated maps
- Data files (.csv, .job, .dxf)
- Review and process daily field data, including:
- Level runs
- Field notes
- Trimble Business Center (TBC) files
- Survey adjustments and corrections
- Perform boundary calculations under the supervision of a Project Surveyor.
- Map and draft survey results using CAD software in accordance with company standards.
- Assist in preparing legal descriptions and sketches, including:
- Determining points of commencement and beginning
- Writing boundary line calls
- Verifying closure of parcels
- Conducting map checks
- Perform QA/QC reviews of survey deliverables prior to submission.
- Apply knowledge of applicable regulations and standards, including:
- Federal, state, and local surveying and development regulations
- Florida Chapter 177 (Plat Review)
- Florida Administrative Code Chapter 5J-17
- Local land development codes and requirements
- Maintain organized project files for current and future use.
- Assist with project scoping, budgeting, and cost estimation alongside Project Surveyors and Project Managers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics, Surveying, or a related field.
- Passed the NCEES Fundamentals of Land Surveying (FS) exam (required).
