Senior Project Engineer
A top heavy civil contractor in Florida is hiring a Senior Project Engineer to help lead a major FDOT highway project in the Lakeland, FL (Polk County) area. This is a direct hire opportunity with a clear path toward a Project Manager role, backed by a deep, well funded project pipeline.
Schedule Full time, onsite in Lakeland, FL.
Compensation $130,000 to $150,000 base salary, plus bonus.
What You'll Do This role runs the RFI and submittal process end to end, keeping designers, the owner, and subcontractors moving so the project stays on schedule. The Senior Project Engineer also drives the schedule, building, updating, and analyzing CPM schedules, identifying critical path risk early, and keeping the field team ahead with look ahead planning.
The role partners with the Superintendent and crews on work sequencing, material deliveries, and subcontractor coordination, and owns quantity tracking, pay estimates, and monthly owner pay applications. Additional responsibilities include reviewing plans and specifications for constructability and FDOT compliance, managing change orders and cost proposals, maintaining documentation and as builts to FDOT standards, and mentoring project engineers on the team.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of project engineering experience on heavy civil or heavy highway projects
- Hands-on FDOT (or comparable DOT) roadway project experience
- Strong command of RFIs, submittals, scheduling, and field coordination
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent field experience
- Comfort with construction scheduling and PM software (Primavera P6, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project)
Preferred Qualifications
- PE (Professional Engineer) license
- Deep familiarity with FDOT specifications and documentation (Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction)
- Experience stepping into or acting in a Project Manager role
