Position SummaryUnder general direction, the Medical Assistant works with patients, families, providers, and staff to promote timely access to needed care, providing daily continuity of care coordination, and coaching patients, families, and caregivers to understand the patient’s care plan and self-care management responsibilities. Responsibilities, knowledge, skills, abilities, and working conditions may change as needs evolve. Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Assists in delivering quality care to providers, patients, patients’ families, and caregivers. Be aware and sensitive to cultural differences between patients and co-workers. Demonstrate personal responsibility and respect for patients, their families, and co-workers in professional appearance.
- Performs job related duties such as vital signs, phlebotomy, assisting with procedures as trained, and EKG. Engages patients, patients’ families, and their caregivers in understanding and monitoring patient self-management care plans in a manner that is culturally and linguistically appropriate.
- Collects and documents data related to patient needs, with the exception of entering orders into the EMR, which should only be done by the Certified Medical Assistant.
- Develops and maintains relationships among patients and their families, care team that supports their access to the medical home. Provides timely communication with patients, makes inquiries, and executes follow-up actions between disciplines.
- Participates in continuing professional growth through attendance at workshops and professional in‑services and through independent research and reading to include timely and respectful communication skills.
- Performs duties in a manner that is culturally and, if applicable, uses translation service when appropriate. Demonstrates flexibility, enthusiasm, and willingness to cooperate while working with others in multidisciplinary teams with activities to include participating in daily huddles.
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with provider directives.
- Maintains sanitation and cleanliness of exam rooms and stocks necessary supplies or materials as needed throughout the workday.
- Demonstrates competencies as applicable to job. Other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
- Knowledge of professional medical assisting theory, federal and state regulations and standard practices and procedures that are within the standard scope of their practice.
- Knowledge of safety practices that prevent exposure to known workplace hazards and the necessary action needed when exposed. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Skill in identifying problems and clearly communicating and recommending solutions. Skill in preparing/maintaining medical records and responding to correspondence.
- Apply the principles of comprehensive, community-based, patient-centered, developmentally appropriate, and culturally and linguistically appropriate care.
- Ability to maintain Joint Commission standards.
- High School or Equivalent
- Basic Cardiac Life Support
- Phlebotomy Certification
- Medical Assisting Certification
Possess either 3 years of prior experience in a MA, CNA, or PCA role, or possess Florida Certified Nurse Assistant Certification.
