General DescriptionResponsible work assisting and coordinating various activities and operations related to airport facilities maintenance and janitorial services at Lakeland Linder International Airport. Under supervision, this position directs the work efforts of the facilities team, coordinating and overseeing the routine maintenance and cleaning of airport facilities. The individual must possess a high degree of initiative and independent judgment, provide solutions to maintenance and janitorial challenges, and focus on the safety, functionality, and aesthetics of the airport and its various systems.
Work is performed under the general direction of a designated supervisor and checked for accuracy, quality, and the ability to complete work in a timely and cost‑effective manner.
- Coordinates the work of and assigns tasks to facilities maintenance and janitorial personnel, managing productivity to minimize building asset downtime, work delays, or stoppage.
- Coordinates and assists with airport facilities construction and renovation activities.
- Coordinates preventative maintenance on building systems including, but not limited to, elevators, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
- Conducts inspections of airport facilities and airport properties to ensure satisfactory levels of service, repair, and maintenance, generating work orders as required.
- Coordinates escorts for contractors and vendors needing access to airport facilities.
- Coordinates initial and recurrent personnel training as required.
- Coordinates and assists with emergency preparation and response following the airport’s approved Emergency Plan (e.g., hurricane preparation and recovery).
- Prepares and maintains appropriate maintenance records and reports.
- Researches and compiles data as the basis for reports and recommendations, analyzing specific maintenance areas as assigned and providing recommendations and assistance with proposed solutions and/or alternate methods or procedures.
- Acts as liaison between the airport and other private and governmental entities as necessary.
- Required to work overtime or alternate hours as necessary for efficient operation of the airport.
- Position is designated Mission Critical.
- Performs related work as required.
- Associate degree or 60 college credit hours from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Real Estate, Airport Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Two years of experience in property management, administrative operations, plans review, and/or permitting with municipalities.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must maintain a valid telephone number.
- Must pass a ten‑year fingerprint‑based criminal history records check and security threat assessment.
- May be required to pass an elevated background check provided by the City of Lakeland Police Department upon hire.
- Knowledge of best practices and techniques for facilities maintenance and janitorial services.
- Knowledge of equipment controls and software applications for building automation.
- Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and janitorial trades.
- Ability to understand and apply safe practices in operating equipment, hand, and power tools.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches.
- Ability to read and interpret lease agreements, identifying maintenance and janitorial responsibilities.
- Ability to coordinate the work of contractors and consultants.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to write reports and provide documented recommendations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with airport users, tenants, contractors, governmental agencies, and the public.
- Skilled in using computer‑based applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other typical office software.
Physical Requirements
- Requires light manual work involving walking or standing, sedentary keyboard operations, and ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force regularly.
- Exposure to hot/cold temperatures, adverse weather, and wet/humid conditions.
- Requires normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception, and texture perception.
