Job Responsibilities

• Laying out, positioning, and securing parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers and ruler.
• Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using MIG Welding equipment.
• Cut work piece, using powered saws and cutting torch.
• Observes welded surfaces to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.
• Removes rough spots from work piece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
• Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
• Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment.
• Ignites torch and adjust valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.
• Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
• Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.

• A broad knowledge of welding. The welding requirements may vary widely depending on the job being offered; this could include that some positions may be on the job for entry-level positions. Higher-level welder positions may require years of formal education in vocational or technical schools or colleges. Some welder positions require a general welding certification or certificate.
• Possess a strong work ethic.
• Ability to follow directions and work independently.
• Must be able to meet tight deadlines and work overtime as required.
