Position: Registered Nurse - RN - ER Full Time Nights-Orlando Health Lakeland Highlands Hospital

Position Summary

Opening Summer 2026 at 4000 Lakeland Highlands Road, Lakeland, FL. Orlando Health Watson Clinic Lakeland Highlands Hospital is a state‑of‑the‑art, seven‑story, multi‑specialty hospital serving as a vital healthcare hub across Florida’s east to west coasts, Central Alabama and Puerto Rico. The hospital will offer 300+ inpatient beds, 69 emergency and observation beds, 11 operating rooms, four cardiac interventional suites, dedicated labor and delivery services including a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), comprehensive cardiovascular, neurology and oncology services, and advanced surgical procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate critical knowledge, skills and judgement to care for patients requiring complex assessment and therapies, high‑intensity interventions, and continuous nursing vigilance.
  • Utilize information and assessment data to anticipate and respond with confidence and adapt to rapidly changing patient conditions.
  • Identify and prioritize information to take immediate, evidence‑based action focused on the patient.
  • Monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients and interpret electronic displays such as intracranial pressures, central venous pressures, pulmonary artery pressures and cardiac rhythms from monitors, respirators, ventilators and oxygen pumps.
  • Respond to life‑saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol.
  • Observe, monitor and assess patients’ conditions, recognize and interpret serious situations, and call a physician or initiate pre‑planned emergency measures when a physician is not immediately available.
  • Assess patient needs and develop or revise individualized plans of care based on patient responses.
  • Evaluate patient progress toward expected outcomes.
  • Respect diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and patients.
  • Function as a patient and family advocate.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills necessary to provide age‑appropriate care on the assigned unit or department.
  • Serve as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, and/or nurse clinician.
  • Communicate and collaborate with medical staff and the interdisciplinary team to effectively plan and manage the unit or department.
  • Serve as a role model for staff and support the hospital and nursing department’s goals and strategies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles over the lifespan, assess patient status data, and interpret information necessary to identify age‑specific patient requirements.
  • Coordinate care and delegate appropriately to other team members for a defined group of patients.
  • Document patient care accurately and consistently, meeting all required and regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrate competency in nursing skills and use of unit equipment as required.
  • Prioritize patient care in accordance with Evidence‑Based Practice Standards of Care.
  • Practice effective problem identification and resolution.
  • Delegate tasks and duties to team members in accordance with patient needs and team capabilities.
  • Communicate relevant information about patient condition or unit concerns to other healthcare team members.
  • Provide caring practices by offering a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  • Demonstrate awareness of legal issues and patients’ rights.
  • Collaborate with the education department and nursing leadership to transition and support new team members and students.
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other standards.
  • Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
