This is a highly responsible public health nursing position working in a clinic setting that requires strong administrative and nursing skills. The incumbent serves primarily as a clinic services coordinator, monitoring, coordinating, and supervising clinical staff and personnel while adhering to established Health Department and local policies and procedures. Work involves supporting high-risk obstetric clients and collaborating with the University of South Florida and other agencies to achieve healthy outcomes for mothers and babies.
SpecificResponsibilities
The role is largely supervisory, focusing on:
- Communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees and planning and directing their work.
- Hiring, transferring, suspending, laying off, recalling, promoting, discharging, assigning, rewarding, or disciplining subordinate staff as warranted.
- Developing performance expectations, conducting performance reviews, managing vacation and work schedules, and recording timesheets.
- Coordinating clinical services and nursing activities in Adult Health, OB/GYN, Family Planning, Laboratory, Immunizations, STD, TB, Insulin, and Epilepsy programs.
- Ensuring confidentiality and security of client information and reporting any breaches.
- Representing the administrator at meetings, training sessions, and on‑call assignments as needed.
- Executing emergency duties outside normal hours when required.
- Assist in referral efforts for external clinical programs.
- Cover staff for leave and shortages in the clinic.
- Maintain readiness of clinic staff, rooms, and supplies through a logistics system.
- Manage inventory via the PFS pharmaceutical system and report discrepancies.
- Perform interpreter duties and additional related tasks as required.
Manage orientation and training programs for new and existing clinical personnel, including monthly institutional training, individualized development plans, cross‑training, and ensuring competency across all positions.
Clinic Quality AssurancePerform in‑house clinical quality assurance following departmental policies and participate in continuous process improvement.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of public health, program evaluation, preventive health care, nursing principles, human anatomy and physiology, community resources, adult learning, agency policies, nutrition, pharmacology, sociology, psychology, EHR, and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to use nursing equipment, computers, and supervise staff.
- Ability to plan, organize, coordinate work assignments, and adapt to changing clinic schedules.
- Strong communication skills and capacity to educate patients on preventive health.
- Ability to work with diverse populations and coordinate specialized nursing programs.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
- Registered Nurse licensing in Florida (or eligibility to practice under the applicable code).
- English language proficiency (oral and written).
- Security background check and/or drug screening.
- Eligibility for emergency duty, including special needs or disaster response.
- Ability to work flexible or extended hours.
- Familiarity with classification of client information and data confidentiality.
