Job Summary:

As a QA/QC Inspector / Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), you will provide field-based quality oversight for outage, maintenance, repair, and capital projects at power generation and heavy industrial facilities. This position is responsible for inspecting welding, fabrication, boiler, pressure-part, piping, structural, and repair activities to verify that work complies with applicable codes, customer specifications, approved procedures, drawings, quality plans, and company quality requirements.

This role requires extensive travel and the ability to work extended outage schedules, including nights and weekends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform field inspections of welding, boiler, pressure-part, piping, structural, fabrication, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Verify work is completed in accordance with approved procedures, drawings, specifications, quality plans, customer requirements, and applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Review welding procedure specifications (WPSs), procedure qualification records (PQRs), welder qualifications, continuity records, inspection reports, repair documentation, and project quality records.
  • Interpret drawings, weld symbols, specifications, inspection and test plans, and applicable code requirements.
  • Coordinate with project management, field supervision, Authorized Inspectors, customers, welders, and third-party nondestructive examination (NDE) providers.
  • Monitor and document NDE and testing activities, including radiographic testing (RT), magnetic particle testing (MT), liquid penetrant testing (PT), hardness testing, post-weld heat treatment (PWHT), and other applicable inspection processes.
  • Support welder qualification testing, certification verification, and continuity compliance requirements.
  • Perform receiving inspections, material identification, and material verification as required.
  • Identify, document, communicate, and assist in resolving quality issues, deficiencies, and nonconforming conditions.
  • Prepare accurate inspection reports and maintain complete project quality records.
  • Support customer inspections, audits, project turnover packages, and outage or project closeout requirements.
  • Maintain calibration and control of assigned inspection equipment.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
  • Working knowledge of welding processes, inspection practices, quality documentation, and applicable repair requirements.
  • Working knowledge of ASME, NBIC, AWS, API, and other applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, welding symbols, WPSs, PQRs, specifications, and inspection requirements.
  • Strong documentation, communication, organization, and field coordination skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize inspection activities, and communicate quality concerns promptly.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively and work extended hours, nights, weekends, and outage schedules as required.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • MT Level II, PT Level II, or other applicable NDE certifications preferred.
  • Additional customer- or site-specific safety qualifications may be required based on the assignment.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Trade, technical, or vocational education related to welding, inspection, industrial maintenance, or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three to five years of welding inspection, quality control, or related industrial inspection experience.
  • Experience supporting power generation, refinery, petrochemical, pulp and paper, industrial construction, or heavy industrial maintenance projects is preferred.
  • Direct outage and boiler or pressure-part repair experience is strongly preferred.
