Security Officer - Surgery Center South - Part Time

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
• Check doors and windows of buildings to ensure they are tightly closed and locked; note in written log any unlocked doors/windows and submit information to Director.
• Observe activity and traffic in assigned area to enforce LSDC rules/regulations; alert visitors of infractions and ensure only authorized parking in the company lot.
• Assist visitors, patrons, and employees to preserve order and protect property.
• Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, deliveries vehicles and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises, including the movement of stock in and out of the building.
• Respond to alarms and calls during the shift; decide what actions to take based on the situation, facts known, and position limitations; decide when an incident requires a written report and which report form to use; submit written report to Director of HR & Credentialing.
• Warn persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehend or evict violators from premises, using force when necessary.
• Assist law enforcement officers with crowd control and surveillance during times of disturbance.
• Assist in fire, safety, and disaster drills as directed.
• Watch for and report fire hazards and unsafe conditions to the proper authorities.
• Maintain proper attire and grooming standards at all times while in uniform.
• Provide outstanding customer service, demonstrating a positive image of LSDC.
• Carry cell phone during working hours for immediate response communication.
• Enforce parking permits for employees, physicians, and other health professionals.
• Enforce lockers for employees, physicians and other health professionals.
• Control and track all keys to the Florida Ave and Griffin Road facilities.
• Maintain current active CPR basis skills credentials certification.
• Perform other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate.
• Demonstrate effective communication skills.
• Demonstrate tact, respect, and courtesy when dealing with other health team members.
• Utilize constructive means to avoid friction.
• Promote an atmosphere of mutual trust, acceptance and respect.
• Use good judgment in reporting serious or questionable matters.
• Comply with safety and emergency procedures consistent with Center policy.
• Demonstrate knowledge of fire emergency procedure and disaster plan.
• Complete fire safety review annually.
• Report unusual occurrences to Director of HR & Credentialing.
• Respond to emergency situations appropriately.
• Maintain a hazard free environment.
• Utilize proper techniques and body mechanics when performing lifting duties.
• Initiate actions to protect the patient, self, and others from environmental hazards.
• Comply with all Center policies.
• Comply with personnel policies.
• Maintain personal absenteeism at 3% or less excluding holidays and vacation time.
• Comply with the proper procedure for sickness, absenteeism, lateness, overtime, and special requests.
• Comply with departmental dress code.
• Demonstrate flexibility in working hours and days scheduled in order to meet Center needs.
• Demonstrate accountability for individual actions.
• Respect the dignity, rights, and confidentiality of all individuals regardless of social or economic status, personal attributes, or nature of health problems.
• Assume responsibility for professional growth.
• Keep abreast of changing Center and departmental policy, procedure, protocol and guidelines.
• Participate in in-service educational programs.
• Complete monthly mandatory staff education.
• Will involve local travel to other campuses.

This job is designated Category I using OSHA definitions. This means there are tasks that involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious material. Use of appropriate protective measures are required for any employee engaged in Category I tasks.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common professional and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Bilingual capability preferred but not required.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of basic mathematics. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
