BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CONSULTANT (CAPTA) OPS -
The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida’s social services agency. The agency oversees services for child safety, fostering, adoption, domestic violence, adult protective services, refugees, homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, childcare providers, human trafficking and public assistance. The agency’s mission is to work in partnership with local communities to protect the vulnerable, promote strong and economically self-sufficient families, and advance personal and family recovery and resiliency.
A part of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program, the Sun Coast Regional Office staff ensure that individuals and families have timely access to prevention, treatment, and recovery support services across the region. They collaborate with local providers, community partners, and key stakeholders to identify service gaps, enhance resource availability, and promote continuity of care.
NOTE: THIS IS NOT A TELEWORK POSITION. CANDIDATE WILL BE REQUIRED TO WORK IN THE SUNCOAST REGIONAL OFFICE.
Responsibilities- Provide clinical expertise and assist with identification of parents with behavioral health conditions in the child welfare system, focusing on opioid use and other substance misuse disorders.
- Consult and collaborate with Child Protective Investigators (CPIs) and dependency case managers to build front‑line staff expertise in identifying behavioral health disorders and engaging families.
- Educate CPIs and dependency case managers on the use of MAT and best practices to engage and treat families in the field.
- Partner with investigative staff to provide consultations on danger threats, adult functioning, parental protective capacities, and safety management services.
- Maintain a working knowledge of community mental health and substance use providers.
- Collaborate with community service providers and the ME to facilitate referrals and assist investigative staff with engaging clients in recommended services.
- Track referrals and entry into treatment for parents with behavioral health disorders, especially those with a substance misuse disorder.
- Support investigators in mitigating behavioral issues and crises, and participate in legal, multidisciplinary, and other meetings.
- Perform additional duties as required to meet program and departmental goals and objectives.
- Respond to emergency events, including irregular work hours, extended periods, and travel to alternate locations as needed.
- Deploy to communities affected by natural disasters within 24–48 hours to represent the organization and implement post‑disaster services.
- Assess impact and assist with development of response strategies and goals for impacted communities.
- Coordinate psychological and mental health resources for individuals, first responders, and affected communities.
- Provide critical information to the Regional Manager and Director of Regional Operations and Initiatives.
- Engages cooperatively and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manages multiple high‑priority projects simultaneously with agility and precision.
- Demonstrates flexibility and the ability to succeed independently and with minimal direction.
