College Intern - Sports Management, Business

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

Perform entry level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training in various offices throughout the City. Perform assigned duties to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required for successful performance. Specific activities vary by department. Work is performed under direct supervision.

This internship is with the Parks and Recreation Aquatics Department. Interns will work a maximum of 30 hours a week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Assist in the execution of facility management

* Assist in Project Management

* Reports hazardous conditions and accidents and administers first aid when needed.

* Instructs individuals and groups in recreational activities; maintains discipline in recreational areas.

* Ability to work flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and early mornings.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Perform related work as required

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE)

Enrollment as a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior in a degree seeking program in an accredited college or university in Sports Management, Recreation management, Physical Education or any field related to the area of internship.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

* American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred

* American Red Cross Water Safety instructor preferred

* Swimming abilities preferred

* Customer Service Skills preferred

* Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook

* Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with supervisor, co- workers, other City employees and the general public

* Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and to request clarification when needed

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/

CONDITIONS:

* Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis

* The job risks exposure to bright/dim light, chemicals, blood borne pathogens and environmental hazards

* The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing and speaking
