Assistant Manager, Lakeside - Lakeside Thurrock

Mattressman, one of the UK’s leading mattress and bed specialists, is opening a brand-new store at Lakeside in March 2026. We’re now looking for an experienced and motivated Assistant Store Manager to play a key role in launching and growing this exciting new location.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a strong retail leader who enjoys coaching others, leading by example, and delivering outstanding customer experiences.

As Assistant Store Manager, you’ll work closely with the Store Manager to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the Lakeside store. You’ll deputise in their absence, support the development of the team, and act as a key point of escalation for both customers and colleagues.

Your responsibilities will include:

Deputising for the Store Manager and supporting overall store performance

Coaching, training and developing Sales Consultants to achieve their full potential

Leading by example on the shop floor, delivering exceptional customer service

Acting as the main point of escalation for customer enquiries and complaints, resolving issues professionally and confidently

Supporting the achievement of sales targets, KPIs and commercial objectives

Maintaining excellent standards of merchandising, compliance and store presentation

Supporting recruitment, onboarding and training of new team members

Previous experience in a retail supervisory or management role

Strong leadership and coaching skills with a hands‑on approach

Confidence handling customer escalations and resolving issues effectively

A sales‑driven mindset with experience working towards targets and KPIs

Excellent communication, organisation and problem‑solving skills

A positive, flexible attitude and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment
