Role Snapshot:
re:fab is hiring a detail-oriented, initiative-taking Junior Estimator to support our Sales and Operations teams. You'll create accurate, timely estimates for residential and commercial projects using tools like Xactimate and Quick Bid, combining office-based estimating with local site visits.
What You'll Do:- Perform detailed takeoffs from property conditions, blueprints, and project documentation (small, medium, and large projects).
- Complete site inspections and field takeoffs to verify scope, quantities, and job conditions.
- Develop detailed cost estimates as designs progress—from conceptual/schematic drawings through final bid.
- Review and analyze schedules, contracts, change orders, daily construction reports, and technical reports.
- Communicate cost drivers and support value engineering conversations across trades.
- Support Sales and Operations with clear estimate packages, scope narratives, and timely updates.
- Help improve estimating efficiency by suggesting process and workflow enhancements.
- Meet productivity/volume expectations while maintaining accuracy and quality.
Strong attention to detail and organization; able to manage multiple estimates with tight timelines.
Collaborative, team-first mindset with a willingness to learn and be coached.
Clear written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting scope and assumptions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Comfort working in a high-performance, fast-paced environment.
Preferred Experience (Not Required)
Experience with estimating software such as Xactimate, Quick Bid, or similar tools.
Prior exposure to residential and/or commercial estimating, document review, or construction/restoration field work.
Familiarity with project phases and interpreting drawings from conceptual through final bid.
Experience with value engineering and cost modeling with fast turnaround.
What Success Looks Like (First 60–90 Days:)Complete accurate takeoffs and estimates with supervision, steadily increasing independence.
Produce clear scope write-ups, inclusions/exclusions, and assumptions that reduce field surprises.
Build strong working relationships with Sales, Operations, and field teams.
Adopt re:fab estimating standards and contribute at least one efficiency improvement idea.
