Fire Sprinkler Designer Responsibilities

  • Design automatic sprinkler systems including fire pumps, tanks, wet, dry, pre‑action, and deluge systems using working knowledge of fire sprinkler codes.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations for each design.
  • Prepare submittal packages to send to Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and subsequent correspondence to achieve design approval.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with contractors.
  • Participate in design kick‑off meetings.
  • With assistance from the Design Manager or a Senior Sprinkler Designer, prepare fabrication lists for pipe fabrication vendors and requisition materials for the job.
  • With assistance from the Design Manager or a Senior Sprinkler Designer, perform field surveys to ensure the design is appropriate for the structure.
  • Assist field personnel with design‑related installation issues.
  • Prepare and submit final job close‑out documents after final acceptance testing.
  • Understand and follow SFP’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies and procedures.
  • Know where all related safety documentation is at all times on each project.
  • Periodically attend seminars or similar education/training sessions to stay abreast of the latest technology, codes, and standards changes.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications Education, Training, Certifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • NICET II or NICET III and/or state‑required certification required. Equivalent experience will be considered assuming the individual pursues NICET education.
Experience, Knowledge, Skill Requirements
  • 1–2 years’ experience as a sprinkler designer, required.
  • Construction experience, mechanical aptitude, and basic and advanced math skills, required.
Communication Skills
  • Must have the ability to effectively read, write and communicate in English with employees and customers.
Systems And Software Skills
  • Ability to operate a computer and use Microsoft Office, required.
  • Familiarity with Hydra Cad, Sprink

    CAD and/or other CAD software, preferred.
Other Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Must be able to comply with SFP’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for long periods. The employee will occasionally be required to bend, kneel, balance, lift 20 lb, walk, stand, ascend and descend stairs, drive, twist, and reach above and below shoulders. The employee will frequently be required to drive and walk for periods.

Work Environment

The employee will consistently be required to work indoors in an office setting, work alone and with others. Employees will occasionally be required to work outside and be exposed to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards and noise. The employee will occasionally be required to wear all appropriate personal protective equipment, as required by company safety policies while visiting locations.
