Position OverviewCEG is seeking an experienced, motivated Substation Engineer II to join our Renewable Power Generation Plants engineering team. In this role, you will design, configure, and test critical substation systems for large-scale renewable energy projects. This position offers advanced, hands‑on ownership of both Physical Design and Protection & Controls (P&C) engineering workflows. Not all requirements need to be met to apply, we encourage parties to apply that have some of the skills needed.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Develop physical layouts and structural plans, including substation equipment, fencing, access roads, grounding grid, trenching routes, and conduit & cable routes
- Develop wiring diagrams and schematics
- Provide engineering markups of AC/DC schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and other drawings for the drafting team to execute
- Review drawings provided by drafting team to ensure all engineering markups were accurately incorporated
- Perform studies related to substation, reactive power, grounding grid, short‑circuit fault, overcurrent, etc.
- Perform mathematical checks on voltage drop and battery sizing equations
- Lead project planning, scheduling, and coordination for projects of all sizes
- Work with other project team members to produce project deliverables as required
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to Substation Interns and Junior Engineers
- Other job‑related responsibilities as assigned
- Travel to client sites and offices occasionally required, up to 20% of time
- Bachelor or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related engineering field
- Desire to acquire Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or already possess
- Desire to acquire Professional Engineering certification or already possess
- 3 – 6 years of experience designing and leading substation projects
- Advanced familiarity with relay manufacturer configuration tools (such as SEL AcSELerator Quickset)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis
- Experience building Substations without a standard or procedure
- Experience with utility‑scale renewable energy systems
- Experience with different substation voltages (69 kV, 115 kV, 138 kV, 230 kV, 345 kV, 500 kV, 765 kV)
- Experience with collection systems or medium voltage
- Experience with substation related software like ETAP, SKM, etc.
- Solid understanding of three‑phase power systems, symmetrical components, and standard IEEE/ANSI device numbers
- Experience with Net Suite ERP
