Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, build, and process development of injection molding tools for plastic components within New Product Development.
  • Ensure alignment with product design, material selection, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership in plastic part design, mold flow analysis, polymer rheology, and tooling design.
  • Guide suppliers through tool build, validation, and qualification activities.
  • Apply GD&T, tolerance stack‑up analysis, and statistical methods such as DOE, MSA, and SPC to support robust process development.
  • Utilize 3D CAD, data‑analysis tools, and SPI standards to ensure high‑quality molded components.
Qualifications
  • Must have: Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of experience, or advanced degree with 8+ years of experience.
  • Solid understanding of plastic part design, injection‑molding guidelines, and 3D CAD packages.
  • Knowledge of mold flow analysis, rheology of crystalline and amorphous plastics (e.g., polycarbonate, acrylic, PVC, nylon, co‑polyesters).
  • Experience guiding and coordinating vendor tool design and qualification activities.
  • Proficiency in GD&T, tolerance stack‑up analysis, and statistical tools (DOE, Gage R&R, MSA, SPC).
  • Familiarity with Society of Plastics Industry (SPI) standards for mold build classification and surface‑appearance recognition.
  • Strong organizational, analytical problem‑solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to transfer technical knowledge to manufacturing operations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in plastics, mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering.
  • Previous Medtronic or medical‑device experience.
  • Molding certifications.
  • Component qualification experience.
Travel

Up to 50% travel may be required to enhance collaboration and ensure project completion.
