The City of Lakeville is looking for a versatile, hands‑on professional to serve as a Facility Technician
. This isn’t a sit‑behind‑a‑desk kind of role—it’s a dynamic position where you’ll be the primary steward of our municipal infrastructure, ensuring our buildings are safe, efficient, and ready to serve the public every day.
From mastering complex Building Automation Systems (BAS) to executing precision repairs, you’ll be the go‑to expert who keeps our physical environment in peak condition. If you take pride in technical problem‑solving and enjoy a role where no two days are the same, we want to hear from you.
Responsibilities- Operate, monitor, and repair critical HVAC, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, leading preventive maintenance.
- Tackle electrical, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, and painting to maintain professional appearance and functionality.
- Assist with building remodels, workstation installs, and temporary workspace setups to help design how teams work.
- Manage computerized energy management systems and track impact using asset management software.
- Be the professional face of facilities by responding to service requests and assisting with setup of major city events and meetings.
- Perform preventive maintenance on heating, ventilating and cooling equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and other mechanical systems.
- Perform minor repairs in carpentry, electrical, drywall, doors, furniture, plumbing, concrete, and painting using hand and power tools.
- Install furniture, shelving, and wall hangings for workstation needs.
- Respond to facility service requests promptly and professionally.
- Assist with construction and remodeling of municipal buildings, including staff relocations and temporary work spaces.
- Operate and train on computerized energy management and building automation systems.
- Procure and manage inventory of maintenance supplies.
- Participate in on‑call maintenance.
- Maintain accurate work orders and equipment maintenance records using asset management software.
- Assist in setting up city facilities for meetings and events, including Utility Division support.
- Support other departments and work divisions as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.
You have a find‑a‑way mentality and a deep understanding of building operations. You are as comfortable navigating a digital building management system as you are with a power tool in your hand. Most importantly, you understand that your work provides the foundation for all other city services to succeed.

- Ability to participate in an on‑call capacity as needed.
- Working knowledge of building operations and maintenance systems.
- Proficiency with hand tools and power equipment.
- Understanding of basic workplace safety procedures and equipment.
- Requires frequent exertion up to 25 pounds and occasional up to 100 pounds.
- Requires standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, repetitive motions, and lifting.
- Requires standard vision, vocal and hearing communication, and the ability to analyze written or computer data.
- Requires working near moving mechanical parts, electrical shock risk, exposure to fumes, chemicals, outdoor weather, blood borne pathogens, and protective equipment.
- Generally in a moderately noisy location.
- High school graduate or GED equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to perform a variety of building trade tasks.
- Knowledge of construction materials, building systems, maintenance techniques, and applicable building codes.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Must obtain a Minnesota Boilers License within six (6) months of hire.
- Must possess a valid Minnesota driver’s license with good driving record.
- Ability to efficiently use computers and various software.
- 3–5 years of experience in building maintenance and repair.
- At least one year of commercial HVAC experience.
- Vocational degree or certification in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or carpentry.
- Valid Minnesota Class D Driver’s License.
- Experience using asset management software such as Cartegraph.
2026 Anticipated Hiring Range: $32.11‑34.56 per hour
2026 Salary Range: $32.11‑41.55 per hour
