- Prune, remove, and fell trees, limbs, and shrubs away from power lines
- Load manageable limbs and logs onto vehicles and equipment
- Use climbing equipment, powered trimmer lift trucks, safety belts, climbing lines, ladders, hand saws, ground saws, and pruners
- Cut branches and trunk sections aloft and lower them with rigging lines
- Fell trees or spars and split them into manageable pieces
- Work near hazardous equipment and energized power lines under qualified supervision; supervise non-qualified employees after meeting prerequisites
- Apply herbicides and growth regulators and maintain application records
- Follow and educate less experienced employees on company policies, safety practices, approved work methods, and OSHA regulations
- Repair minor property damage and elevate issues to the General Foreperson
- Feed brush and debris into a wood chipper
- Set up warning signs, barriers, flags, hand signals, traffic controls, and direct traffic
- Cooperate with property owners, customers, and emergency personnel
- Inspect and perform routine maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and tools; report specialized maintenance needs
- Drive and operate assigned vehicles and equipment
- Remain on duty and travel outside the regular work location during emergencies or natural disasters
- Maintain attendance and comply with applicable laws and company policies
- Minimum of 3 months of experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews, or successful completion of applicable skills assessments
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required
- Must have valid First-Aid and CPR cards or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
- Basic knowledge of trees, including identification, growth habits, and arboricultural techniques for trimming, pruning, repairing, maintaining, and removing trees near energized conductors
- Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300 standards
- Knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read and understand circuit maps
- Knowledge of OSHA electric power generation, transmission, and distribution standards, including 29 CFR
- Ability to determine nominal voltage, use insulated tools near energized parts, and distinguish exposed live parts
- Ability to follow instructions, communicate professionally, read and write job instructions and safety information
- Ability to recognize poisonous plants and use required PPE
- Ability to work long hours, overtime, holidays, weekends, storm work, and call-out work
- Knowledge of and training in tree and bucket rescue
- Ability to operate and service required tools and equipmentle>
- Ability to work independently and in a group
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s or commercial driver’s license and DOT medical card, dependent on requirements
- Ability to drive a vehicle with an attached chipper or trailing unit
- Maintain herbicide application certification or equivalent as required
- English reading, writing, and speaking required
- Extensive travel required, greater than 50%
- Ability to meet physical requirements including climbing, lifting, carrying, and maneuvering up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally
- Ability to work outdoors in rugged terrain and around electrical, mechanical, chemical, height, weather, and other hazards
Demonstrates expertise in tree trimming, pruning, and removal techniques while adhering to safety standards and regulations. Proficient in operating specialized equipment and tools, with a strong understanding of electrical safety and herbicide application.
