Job Title
Lead Dyno Engineer
Job DescriptionWe made history and now we work to transform the future – for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters.
Ford's Electric Vehicles, Digital and Design (EVDD) team is charged with delivering the company's vision of a fully electric transportation future. EVDD is customer-obsessed, entrepreneurial, and data-driven and is dedicated to delivering industry-leading customer experience for electric vehicle buyers and owners. You'll join an agile team of doers pioneering our EV future by working collaboratively, staying focused on only what matters, and delivering excellence day in and day out.
Join us to make positive change by helping build a better world where every person is free to move and pursue their dreams.
In this position...The Lead Dyno Engineer owns the readiness, calibration, and data integrity of our chassis and hub-coupled dynamometer lab supporting EV development and certification testing. This role is accountable for compliance with SAE J1634 (EV energy consumption/range), SAE J2263/J2264 (coastdown and road load), EU WLTP for battery electric vehicles, and ISO
17025 accreditation. You'll build and manage a full lab system — from test request through execution to data delivery — while driving thermal, range, and energy consumption development testing.
What you'll do...
• Own dyno readiness for chassis and hub-coupled systems: calibration schedules, preventative maintenance, and equipment qualification.
• Lead EV energy consumption, range, and road load testing per SAE J1634, J2263/J2264, and 40 CFR Part 86 + Parts 1065/1066 certification requirements.
• Lead EU WLTP testing for BEVs, including road load setting, coastdown correlation, and range/consumption protocols.
• Author and version-control SOPs, QA documentation, and calibration logs for audits.
• Complete final design for optimized lab operations, including additional test cell instrumentation, safety protocols, and data visualization.
• Run thermal and range development programs — chamber testing, HVAC load studies, battery thermal management, and range degradation across drive cycles and climates.
• Lead the lab's pursuit and maintenance of ISO
17025 accreditation: document control, method validation, uncertainty analysis, proficiency testing, and audit readiness.
• Build and continuously improve a lab management system covering test request intake, scheduling, execution, and data delivery.
• Establish quality checkpoints at pre-test setup, in-test monitoring, and post-test data validation, including statistical outlier detection and data integrity checks before delivery.
• Support test engineers with data analysis and reporting: process raw dyno, CAN, and high-voltage energy measurement data into validated results; help develop analysis scripts/templates for energy consumption, range, and thermal performance trends.
• Analyze test-to-test and lab-to-lab data variability, driving root cause investigations and corrective actions for calibration drift or data anomalies.
• Maintain calibration and traceability records for dynamometer load cells, power analyzers, and current/voltage + temperature/pressure instrumentation.
• Serve as primary technical liaison for internal homologation team for support with EPA, EU technical services, and accreditation auditors.
• Mentor technicians and engineers on test procedures, calibration, and data quality practices.
• Coordinate with battery/thermal/SW engineering and program teams to align test scheduling with development and certification milestones.
QualificationsYou'll have...
• Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• 7+ years in automotive test engineering, with dynamometer lab experience on electrified vehicle programs.
• 3+ years in a lead/senior engineering role for compliance, quality, or lab management.
• Working knowledge of SAE J1634, J2263, J2264, EPA EV certification requirements, and EU WLTP BEV…
