Position: Assets Protection Executive Intern (Store Leadership Intern) - Lakewood, CA (Starting Summer 2025)

Description

The pay range per hour is $26.75–$27.75.

Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position, including labor markets and, in some instances, education, work experience and certifications.

All About Assets Protection

The Assets Protection (AP) teams provide a safe and secure environment for team members and guests while meeting the store’s financial goals. AP teams lead a culture of physical security and safety, respond to crisis events, investigate and resolve theft, and educate team members on operational shortage priorities.

  • Managing a safe and secure culture, including crisis response, strong safety environment and crowd management planning, and supporting both guests and team members.
  • Creating strategic AP strategies and goals and delivering results through your team.
  • Identifying and resolving external theft and fraud, and apprehending individuals causing loss in accordance with Target policy.

  • Recruiting, selecting, and overseeing hourly team members and leaders.
Responsibilities
  • Take initiative to learn how to be an AP leader, seeking opportunities for growth and development.
  • Provide new ideas and recommend solutions to business or team opportunities.
  • Commit to learning Target’s expectations of leaders and use them to develop yourself through questions and feedback.
  • Actively participate in internship program training, development activities and events.
  • Demonstrate willingness to take risks; step out of comfort zone and sustain new assignments.
  • Partner with store leaders regarding team performance by teaching, coaching, training and delivering timely performance feedback.
  • Lead the team to uphold ethical conduct, safety, and compliance and hold others accountable.
  • Influence and validate a safe and secure culture by driving physical security and safety processes; lead store response to emergency crisis situations and create plans for in‑store events.
  • Educate store leaders and teams on emergency preparedness and physical security procedures.
  • Identify shortage risks in key divisions and develop tactics to reduce shortage and drive profitable sales.
  • Support the identification and resolution of internal investigations.
  • Prevent, identify and resolve external theft incidents and investigations.
  • Work a schedule that aligns with guest and business needs (including early morning/overnight shifts, evenings and weekends).
  • Model safety culture in store, recognizing safe behaviors and addressing hazards.
  • Work safely at all times, identifying and correcting hazards, and complying with safety policies.
  • Perform any other duties based on business needs.

Qualifications
  • Meet any state or local licensure and/or legal requirements related to the position.
  • Previous retail or security experience preferred, but not required.

  • Ability to manage conflict, lead and hold others accountable.
  • Adaptability to current technology needs.
  • Strong cognitive skills – problem analysis, decision making, financial and quantitative analysis.
