Bear Creek Lake State Park is accepting applications for a Administrative & Office Specialist position.
Job SummaryWe are seeking a self-motivated, dependable and knowledgeable individual to perform a variety of administrative and financial tasks. The ideal candidate will provide accurate information about state park amenities, services, and local attractions while maintaining a welcoming and efficient environment for visitors and staff.
Key Duties And Responsibilities- Provide excellent customer service in person, by phone, and via email.
- Provide coverage at the park’s contact station and park office.
- Assist visitors with reservations inquiries for cabins, campsites, meeting facility, picnic shelter, fees, directions, trail information, educational programs, and local area details.
- Serves as the main point of contact for the park. Responsible for incoming phone calls, emails and in person guests.
- Collect and reconcile fees, assist with merchandise in multiple sales areas, pass sales, and inventory. Ability to accurately count money, perform daily cash register transactions, reconcile register(s), complete daily cash management paperwork, and input data into respective software.
- Assist with merchandise displays for the park office/gift shop, beach area and special events.
- Support program registrations, facility reservations, rental agreements, and guided tours.
- Perform general office administration duties as assigned; ensure workspace, front desk, and other customer contact areas are neat and clean; and serve as support staff for park leadership.
- Excellent customer service skills and positive attitude about working collaboratively.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
- Familiarity with operating a computer, cash register, and other office equipment.
- Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Experience providing administrative support and knowledge of the park is desirable.
- Prior knowledge and experience in retail and cash management procedures, and knowledge of state procurement policies.
- Competent in using Microsoft Office software applications.
- Background Check:
Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check. - Employment Eligibility:
Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify. - Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements:
Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30. This is a year-round, part-time position.
