Water/Wastewater Construction Inspector - Lakewood, CO

Bowman is seeking a qualified professional to serve as a Water/Wastewater Construction Inspector, responsible for ensuring construction tasks meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

Purpose

Assist the project manager and quality assurance manager in planning, managing customer satisfaction, and achieving the financial success of construction project tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Perform work under moderate supervision; receive direction on moderately complex assignments and ensure application of sound techniques and principles.
  • Review work produced by junior staff for quality assurance.
  • Oversee or participate in the examination and analysis of construction materials.
  • Initiate and/or accept minor deviations from contract standards and specifications.
  • Lead, oversee and participate in inspecting work quality and materials used in a variety of projects.
  • Verify contractors’ work for accuracy, proper methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
  • Review and approve monthly pay applications.
  • Review proposed change orders for scope of work and appropriate pricing; evaluate and make recommendations on proposed changes; participate in negotiating and preparing change orders.
  • Perform preliminary and final inspections; determine acceptability of construction; sign off on project completion; oversee construction project closeout activities.
  • Review construction plans for constructability and meet with design professionals or contractors to interpret design intent and modifications.
  • Provide technical guidance and interpretation; ensure compliance with state and industry standards, procedures, and regulations.
  • Prepare inspection reports as required; maintain files and reports regarding inspection and plan check activities and findings.
  • Coordinate contractors’ construction schedule to ensure proper and prompt material testing.
  • Ensure contractors have installed and maintain proper traffic control throughout the job site.
  • Make recommendations to management regarding construction and constructability related issues.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED, commensurate relevant experience considered.
  • Five or more (5+) years of experience in construction field in civil improvement projects.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and methods applicable to municipal settings.
  • Working knowledge of applicable laws, standards and regulations relating to construction, inspection, safety, and traffic control.
  • Considerable knowledge of public works inspection methods.
  • Considerable skill in reading and interpreting construction drawings, plans and specifications, and contract documents; skill in applying material testing procedures.
  • Ability to prepare, organize and maintain inspection field and office data, reports and systems.
  • Ability to perform required mathematical computations.
  • Work knowledge of math, surveying, construction plans, materials testing and construction materials and techniques as applied to the work environment.

  • Partly indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
