Job Description:

Counselor:
190 Day position     Designs and implements a school guidance curriculum; provides individual student planning, responsive services, and systems support. Works as a team member with school staff, parents and the community to create a caring, supportive climate and atmosphere whereby students can achieve academic success. Understanding of unique and diverse challenges, both personally and developmentally that impact academic achievement of high school students is essential.

Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.
Responsibility:
Counsel student s to encourage and support academic achievement. Assist students regarding educational issues such as course and program selection, class scheduling, truancy, study habits and college/career planning.
Provide information to students and parents regarding academic progress, counseling programs, community resources, post-secondary opportunities, etc.
Customize counseling services to meet individual student and school needs.
Assist in coordinating district, state, and/or post-secondary testing programs.
Counsel students to help them understand and overcome personal, social or behavioral problems affecting their educational situation. Demonstrate age-appropriate counseling practices that meet academic, career, and personal/social needs.
Maintain community partnerships to support students and their families.
Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
Work collaboratively within the school environment and with appropriate stakeholders to advance the goals of the Counseling Program.
Refer and connect students to appropriate resources to enhance learning and development.
Support students in the successful transition from each grade level into the next phase. Prepare students for post-secondary options.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Encourage two-way communication to enhance and promote the school counseling program.
Use available technology resources to enhance the school counseling practice and program.
Align the counseling program to school goals (School Improvement Plan).
Use assessment data to measure student learning and academic growth and analyze results in planning counseling decisions.

Education:

Master Degree - Counseling     Salary:
$56,366.00 to       Intervention Specialist - Gifted Education Facilitator     185 Day position     Gifted Education and Programming in Douglas County School District is a collaborative model with general education teachers, support specialists, and administrators working as a team to identify, plan for, and serve gifted learners. Works with students, families, staff, school leaders, and community partners to identify student needs and provide direct and indirect support for gifted learners in order to support each student in reaching his/her potential.
Coursework and experience in gifted identification, instructional practices, collaboration and planning, professional development, and service delivery models specific to high potential, advanced, and gifted learners is required.
M.Ed. and/or Endorsement in Gifted Education, preferred.
Must be able and willing to obtain other certifications required for the position      ESSENTIAL
