Job Summary

The Biology Department at RRCC is seeking a Biology Lab Assistant I and II to prepare, set-up, and take-down lab activities including models, specimens, equipment, and supplies, support instructors and students during labs, ensure all laboratory, classroom, and prep-room areas are properly maintained, organized, and clean, basic cleaning and organization of lab facilities, maintenance of lab equipment, preparation of lab facilities for daily use, operation of various lab equipment, assisting instructors, and stocking lab facilities.
This position reports to the Lab Coordinator 2. The work schedule for this position will be within the time frame of 8:00 a.m.

- 9:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. Shifts will vary, depending on course directives at the Lakewood or Arvada campus depending on course directive. May require hours outside of normal work schedule.
This is a student employee position. This position may work up to 20 hours each week while class is in session and up to 28 hours each week during academic breaks or breaks between terms while an RRCC student, depending on class schedule, need, and budget availability.

Student employees are enrolled and contribute to a TIAA-CREF account when enrolled in less than six credits.
Students who qualify for work study employment are encouraged to apply.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Prepare, set-up, and take-down lab activities including models, specimens, equipment, and supplies Operation of various lab equipment.
  • Support instructors and students during labs Stocking lab facilities.
  • Ensure all laboratory, classroom, and prep-room areas are properly maintained, organized, and cleaned.
  • Directly assisting instructors.

  • Ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office suite products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Required Qualifications For work study employment
  • Must be an RRCC student and have been granted a work study award for the semester the student is seeking employment and maintain eligibility.
  • Must be enrolled in at least half-time (6 credit hours) and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress for all credit hours.
For student hourly employment
  • Must be an RRCC student and enrolled in at least half-time (6 credit hours).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Science major with successful completion of multiple biology courses or a chemistry course.
  • The ability to be able to work on both campus locations, is preferred and priority will be given to those applicants.
Physical & Cognitive Demands

The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.

Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.

This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.

The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Advertised Hourly Pay

The hourly pay for this position is $19.37 - $19.89, commensurate with education and experience. This is a part-time, FLSA non-exempt position. This position may work up to 20 hours each week while class is in session and up to 28 hours each week during academic breaks or breaks between terms while an RRCC student, depending on need and budget availability.

Benefits
  • Medical insurance is offered to instructors and other variable hour employees who have worked, on average, at least 30 hours per week in a 12-month period. RRCC/CCCS uses an initial 12-month measurement period to determine medical benefit eligibility, and a 12-month standard measurement period. Student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours a week when classes are in session, and may work up to 28 hours a week, during academic breaks or breaks between terms at the discretion of the college, and non-classified hourly and temporary staff are limited to 28 hours in a workweek, depending on budget and need.
