Job Summary:

The World Languages Department at RRCC is seeking a Part‑Time American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor to teach ASL courses. The Adjunct Instructor will be responsible for delivering high‑quality instruction, fostering student engagement and critical thinking, and supporting student success in a diverse community college environment. Responsibilities include preparing and delivering course content, facilitating discussions and learning activities, assessing student performance, and maintaining accurate academic records in accordance with college policies and procedures.

This position reports to the World Languages Department Lead and the Chair of Communication, Humanities, and World Languages. The work schedule for this position may include day and evening hours, at the Lakewood, CO location. Assignments will vary by semester and modality. The position will require hours outside of the normal work schedule for preparation, grading, and student communication.

This position may work up to 28 hours per week, depending on budget and need.

Competencies/KSAs:
  • Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language and knowledge of Deaf culture, history, and community.
    Ability to teach ASL using immersive, communicative, and student‑centered instructional methods.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching strategies for adult learners in higher education.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful classroom environment that supports students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to integrate instructional technology, learning management systems, and digital resources into teaching.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and instructional excellence.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA and other applicable policies.
Physical & Cognitive Demands

The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.

  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
